We’ve worked with students just like you and helped them improve their ACT scores to get into their top choice schools. Jared, for example, had a decent score for his English and Reading sections but couldn’t make improvements on his own for the Math and Science sections... until he worked with a JEM expert! Jared was shooting for the stars: he wanted to land an acceptance at his “reach school”. He had a strong academic record and a solid GPA, but he was struggling to really crack the ACT on his own. He had a lot of natural aptitude in the English and Reading sections, but Math and Science just weren’t clicking despite his good grades in those subjects.
Jared had participated in an ACT Course at his high school, but found his mind wandering during the lessons he grasped easily, and not able to implement any substantive changes for the sections that were harder. He had tried reading through an ACT prep book, but the practice questions he did weren’t helping him do any better on full-length sections of the test. Because he couldn’t nail all of his sections, Jared’s confidence was shaken and he was struggling with his motivation to keep practicing. He knew he needed to do better on the test, but he just couldn’t seem to make it happen.
During our first session, we discussed Jared’s preparation history and reviewed his practice tests. We determined that Jared really struggled with the timing for the Math and Science sections (a common issue for many), and this was interfering with his performance.
We set up one-hour targeted lessons to make sure he understood the content and question types, and we worked on timing drills and strategy to make sure that those sections would become smoother and smoother over time. As our sessions continued, we always checked in to make sure Jared was getting the most value out of our tutorial time together. Jared’s sessions paid off in his practice tests – as he progressed with his tutorials, his practice tests reflected his efforts. We made sure to schedule enough practice tests for him so that by the time Test Day rolled around, there were absolutely no surprises (well, about the ACT, anyway – he did report that another test taker tried to take out a tuna fish sandwich for a snack at one point, but that’s another story...).

We (Joa and Emily) met while working for Big Test Prep companies and knew there was a better, more personalized way to provide digital test prep and admissions consulting services. Thus, JEM Achievement was born: tailored and flexible support available online, no matter where you are. JEM empowers students in pursuit of advanced education through curated courses, private tutoring, and strategic coaching. We strive to have a hand in developing future leaders within their communities, instilling a solid set of values to be carried forward.
We have worked with hundreds of ACT, SAT, and undergraduate admissions students over the course of our 10+ year careers in private education and know how stressful test preparation can be. With classes, extracurriculars, and life, we realize that test prep courses are difficult to add into the mix, but we also know that they are an extremely important piece of the admissions puzzle. We also realize that you don’t always know if you’re paired up with an instructor who is a good fit for you.
Both of us have compatible styles with sometimes different perspectives and strengths, which is why we make such a great team!
